Thanksgiving Travel Plans Unscathed
Despite the growing economic crisis, most Americans aren't rethinking their travel plans for the Thanksgiving weekend, though fewer are flying this year, according to a survey by Discover.
Of 1,000 consumers polled, 71 percent said cost was not a consideration when making their holiday travel plans, the credit card firm reported this week.
By contrast, roughly half said they're concerned about higher food prices, with 30 percent planning potluck dinners to cut down on costs. Of those choosing to stay home, most cited higher gas prices or the state of the economy.
Among Thanksgiving travelers, 89 percent said they plan to travel by car, up from 88 percent in a similar survey last year. The rest plan to take a plane or a bus.
The Air Transport Association of America is estimating a 10 percent drop in airline travel over the long weekend, the first decline in seven years.
