Project Management Model Comparison
Project management is one of the main streams in software engineering process. Let it be either hardware or simulation projects all may require maintenance or they all follow the same software management models. There are many models available to manage projects. However, their application depends on the scope and type of your project application. Hence, now we will see around three best models process, strengths, and weakness.
PMO:
Features of PMO:
Scope boundaries, roles, and responsibilities for PMO are very clearly defined.
It mainly focuses on the architectural management of a process.
It provides support for both training and leadership.
It also provides benchmarking strategies.
Strong HR relationship is developed very easily implementing such a model.
Advantages from vendors point of view:
It provides consistency, driving efficiency, adoption, and execution of best practices.
Creates a sense of professionalism and gives a positive project culture impact.
Supports growth of management.
Financially feasible to even a small organization or even a basic project.
Provides the key link to customers and gives stable clients.
Gives details of everyone’s roles and responsibility.
Disadvantages in PMO Model:
To set up procedures and process using this model takes nearly larger time than to develop the entire project itself.
Set-up takes a very long time.
Demands additional staffs than planned to be used. This would at the last minute rush up with much confusion.
Best Application to implement PMO Model:
It can be mostly used for small and slow business progresses.
When project lifetime is high this is dependable.
SDLC:
Features of SDLC:
· SDLC is the most oriented life cycle method for the development of an project
· It gives systematic details for development phase.
· This starts from resource collection and finally ends with maintenance, which feed backs once again to the cycle of resource collection itself.
· It is a continuous improvement process.
Advantages of SDLC model:
Setting goal would be the most initial process and hence it would lead definitely to a successful project
As goal is clarified one could layout the entire process before the project starts.
This would give definite working spirit to the team members.
It is an excellent model to a project been implemented in teams.
Disadvantages of SDLC model:
· The main problem with this model would be, not all what is written clearly in a paper would be clear in implementation.
· It suppresses creativity and no linearity in doing work as per the client’s requirements is encouraged.
Best Application to implement SDLC Model:
· Projects that would require continuous improvement could use this model.
ASP:
Features of ASP:
· ASP is mostly weighted for their performance characteristics.
· It offers flexibility in applying great solutions.Advantages of ASP model:
· It can very easily develop and apply to small modules and later be integrated to give a complete solution.
· It is feasible in finance. Economy of project is also predictable.
· It specializes the specific language and work on them
· Broad marketability is also available.
Disadvantages of ASP model:
· Management involving data mining, data structures and other high level functionalities would be a challenge
· This has just sprouted model and many specifications are not as clear as the previous models.
Best Application to implement ASP Model:
· Applied mostly to starting projects, which require very less cost.
